Consisting of aspects that come from the Pueblo Revival style and Spanish Revival style, the Southwest style of architecture made its mark in the United States mainly in the states of Arizona and New Mexico. Spanish Revival Style
The Spanish Revival style of architecture was a major influence on the Southwest style that developed in the United States. This style was more relevant in New Mexico more than any other Southwester state. What makes this style so significant is the adobe structure that forms the home but when styles began to evolve, they substituted more stable material while keeping the same design.
The structures are typically colored with earth tones to adapt the old fashioned design. They are usually single story structures with low, flat roofs and a single beam that serves not structural purpose to the home. Standard Southwestern Style Traits
The Southwestern style architecture takes aspects from each of these two styles and combines them to make one new style. Southwestern style architecture commonly has stucco walls with low, flat roofs. They are usually colored with earth tones from the Pueblo style and have a porch or balcony that extends off of the home. All of the openings in the home like doorways or porch openings have an arch design.
