La Hacienda Historic Neighborhood
La Hacienda is a small historic neighbohrood in the very modern Midtown Phoenix area, but it retains a high level of its early to mid-20th Century architectural character. It remains one of Phoenix’s small, yet prestigious residential neighborhoods with a distinct feel, character and beautiful homes.
The character of this historic district is emphasized by mature, dense flora which engulf and line the two streets. There is a wide variety of mature vegetation including palms, eucalyptus, citrus, mesquite, and pine trees.
There are two sections to this neighborhood. The Mayfair section which features tudor and ranch homes and the second section La Hacienda wich has a very distinct collection of Spanish And Southwest style architecture.
In the Mayfair area, between 3rd and 5th Streets, these trees sit in a buffer of landscaping in the right-of-way between the sidewalks and the paved streets.
In the La Hacienda area, between 5th and 7th Streets, lawns butt directly with paved streets without sidewalks. In the historic period, both neighborhoods touted their paved streets as a modern convenience to the suburban driver.
Pedestrian sidewalks and street lights are absent from the La Hacienda neighborhood, a distinc and welcome remnant from the original idea of the developers.
