Things To Do In Phoenix: Artisan Bread From M.J. Bread With Butter, Just Butter
Posted by Artur Ciesielski on Monday, April 26th, 2010 at 4:54pm.What is called Artisan here is normal in Europe and as time goes by maybe artisan bread will be the norm, that is flavorful natural real bread baked by real people in bakeries rather then huge machines spitting out blocks of white soulless, tasteless and nutrition-less fluff. That's probably decades away, but Phoenix's growth has brought talented bakers to the valley ready to fill this much needed niche.
M.J. Bread is not new. I don't remember how long it's been, but years have passed and for us at least two loafs a week get eaten up with pleasure.
The best way, in my opinion, is to eat this bread with good unsalted butter: just simply like that. It kind of reminds me of the many times my cousin Krzysiek and I used to walk from my grandmas house to the county store back in Poland to get some supplies and the daily fresh bread. We alway had to get an extra loaf because most of at least one was gone by the time we made the quarter mile track back home, it was that good.
Today I got a Walnut loaf and a Marble Rye and the first thing when I got home was to slice into the firm skin and luscious sourdough then smothered it with cool fresh butter.
M.J. Bread is located inside Tammie Coe on Roosevelt.
