Living Near The Phoenix Mountains

Posted by Artur Ciesielski on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 at 9:47am.

In the mornings on certain days you can see the air saturated with moisture rolling down the side of the mountains.

The air is usually crisp and for a desert refreshing.  Those are rare days, but certainly memorable ones.  It need not be one of those unique days to enjoy living near the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.

The Phoenix Mountains Park and Dreamy Draw within its midst is an amazing grouping of mountains and hill in the middle of Phoenix, a gateway into the diverse desert with fantastic views where one can get lost surrounded by nature and not a sound or view of the city.

The Preserve is surrounded by several distinct neighborhoods, namely: Paradise Valley, Biltmore area, Sunnyslope and the 85028 zip code which straddles the North Foothills.

Each of these has direct access to the trails.  Sunnyslope has the lower priced homes with some luxury homes mixed in.
The Dreamy Draw and Biltmore area have a mixture of homes, town-home and condos in all price ranges, though the price grows as you head east until Paradise Valley where some of the homes near the mountains fetch over ten million dollars.

The 85028 area is the most diverse.  You’ll find modern homes in Paradise Gardens, the very popular Rancho Alta Vida, 70’s ranch homes in Christy Cover and large horse properties on multi-acre lots south of Shea.

The slopes on the south tend to be steep and access is a little bit more limited.  The popular and strenuous Piestewa Peak trail is on the south.  The north has rolling hills and dozens of trails heading into the preserve.

Each day you’ll see neighbors taking their dogs for walks, for an exhilarating fast paced jog or the get away from the city.

Though there are places to park like at Dreamy Draw park which also has picnic tables and plenty of parking lots of people like to live within walking distance.  There is a certain allure to not having to ride a car to take a walk so homes in these areas tend to be quite popular and desired.

We’ve put together continuously updated page of homes surrounding the preserve to make the search easier.
