Contemporary Modern Architecture And Homes In Phoenix
Posted by Artur Ciesielski on Wednesday, June 8th, 2011 at 2:44pm.Contemporary homes are few in Greater Phoenix and they tend to be in the upper price ranges. The most spectacular homes, of course, are in the million(s) plus range and they tend to be in Paradise Valley or Scottsdale.
There are however contemporary homes under a million as well in areas such a Sunnyslope and through out Central Phoenix, but in the lower price ranges it's the condos and townhouses that shine in places like Beadle lofts, Galleries at Turney or Mezzo lofts.
Also a lot of the mid-century modern homes have been remodeled and look very modern contemporary. What's the difference between modern and modern or mid-century modern and modern contemporary?
The terminology can be confusing since modern is used for older stuf and for completely new stuff. Really it's about semantics. The word modern comes from the modernism movement from the early 20th Century up to probably the 1970's In Phoenix modernism took hold after World War II when the city rapidly grew.
These homes are mid-century modern homes from the likes of Beadle and Haver while the focus here is modern contemporary aka MoCO in some circles. These are homes that have their roots in modernism: the use of alternative materials and clean lines.
That's why we have a special section for mid-century modern homes and a new separate section for modern contemporary homes built mostly recently, but a few good ones were built in the 1980's and 1990's as well, though the most innovative homes are the newer ones.
The modern contemporary section on this website contains hand picked homes from Scottsdale, Tempe, Paradise Valley and Phoenix. They are hand picked because what people stick into the contemporary section in the MLS includes current track homes which technically are contemporary just not modern contemporary.
If you interests in architecture take you toward this style then please take a look at both sections. While mid-century modern homes are from the 1940's to the 1970's in Phoenix many have been completely transformed inside and out and this is where aficionados of contemporary modern homes can buy beautiful properties even as low as the $200,000 range.
