365 Things To Do In Phoenix: Walk The Warehouse District In Downtown Phoenix
Posted by Artur Ciesielski on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 at 3:05pm.For a start, did you know Phoenix has a Warehouse District, and not one solely for the purpose of warehousing, but a neighborhood that's about to become an amazing cultural entertainment destination. But don't wait. It's there now, ready to explore: at least the architecture and streets are. Although there are a few restaurants there it's still a sleeping giant.
The district is located just south of Downtown Phoenix between 19th Avenue and I-51 and stretching 3-4 block south. Visit the Levine Machine website for a rich description of the buildings and histories so fascinating that it will make you appreciate the intricacies and history of Phoenix much more: from the filming of Psycho, to political intrigue, architectural and urban visions, huge business and enough material to fill dozens of books. Knowing the history will allow you to appreciate the buildings and area even more and how vital it is that we preserve them.
Check out the short video for an introduction to the Warehouse District in Phoenix.
This is the area of the, long gone, China town in Phoenix, of which one building remains, saved recently from almost becoming a parking lot.
Sometimes it's not easy to appreciate such areas until you see what other cities have done with their warehouse districts and then you'll be a convert.
Our warehouse district is gaining momentum as more people and organizations, businesses and government see potential and need. The last thing we want is Phoenix to become what it was, a drab lifeless city devoid of local color and only to determined and quick to kill it's history for a quick easy buck.
Phoenix is truly on the verge of a transformation. Imagine the Phoenix bursting back to life: one also shedding it's a cocoon not only coming to life, but to be reborn into a unique exhilarating urban space with distinct character.
